The 12 Pay of Christmas scratch card from the National Lottery is offering players the chance to win £1.2 million top prize for £5 stake. But is it worth it?
How To Play 12 Pays of Christmas?
If you’ve decided to treat yourself by purchasing this National Lottery scratchcard, then it’s only natural that you would want to know how to play the game. Let’s be honest, most cards are simple to play.
However, with so many bonus games being added to scratchcards these days, some can be a little overwhelming.
Of course, we’re not complaining because more games mean more opportunities to win. However, we also understand that some of the rules for these games can be confusing.
The first thing you need to know about the 12 Pays of Christmas scratchcard is that there are 24 play areas on it. So it’s a little more complicated than most cards sold by the National Lottery.
Each has its own little image with the overall scratch card designed to look like an Advent calendar because this card is for Christmas 2022.
As each square gives you the opportunity to win cash, there are no bonus games on this scratch card.
The Games: Reading the card from top to bottom, there are 24 squares, numbered 1 – 24.
There are four rows across and six down, and each could win you a prize.
The idea is that you scratch the panel, and underneath there are two symbols. Simply get two identical symbols in any ‘game’, and you win the prize on that square.
If you’re lucky enough to see the word ‘Double’ twice in a game, you win double the prize.
What Is The Jackpot Prize?
The top prize on offer for the 12 Pays of Christmas scratchcard is £1.2 million.
That is because the top prize is £100,000 per MONTH for a YEAR!
Only four cards in circulation from the initial run have that prize.
The next biggest prize available is £10,000. This is a pretty poor second prize, especially when you consider that there are only FIVE of them to be won.
So, in a crazy twist, you nearly have the same odds of winning £1.2 million as you do of winning £10K.
The National Lottery can definitely do better than that!
Chances Of Winning
According to the National lottery, there is a 1 in 3.18 overall chance of winning a prize on the 12 Pays of Christmas scratchcard.
The lowest prize on offer is £5, but with over 11 different potential cash prizes, the amount you can win reaches a whopping £1.2 million.
Now before you get too excited, I should point out that from the 14,268,480 12 Pays of Christmas scratchcards printed in the initial run, only four contained the top prize.
So the reality is that you have around one in 3.56 million chance of scooping the top prize.
Of course, you have a much better shot at bagging a smaller amount of £5 as there are over 1.9 million of them in circulation.
Like all scratchcards, the higher the potential prize, the less chance you have of winning it.
But don’t let that stop you because somebody does have to win the top jackpot prize, and there’s no reason why that cannot be you!
How Many Prizes Left On 12 Pays of Christmas Scratchcard?
As we’ve already mentioned, the 12 Pays of Christmas scratchcard has four top prizes of £1,200,000.
At the time of writing this and according to the National Lottery, only two of those top prizes are still waiting to be won.
You can claim on a winning card even after they have gone out of circulation. Any money won must be claimed before the end of the 180th day after the closing date of the relevant game.
Bonus Games On The 12 Pays of Christmas Scratchcard
As far as bonus games go, this scratchcard has none of them.
Then again the card already has 24 chances to win, with the bonus of potentially doubling a prize.
But if it is bonus games that you are after, you might be better trying some online scratchcards which do have extra bonus games, increasing your chances of bagging a prize.
Quite often their jackpots are also bigger than those available on the high street.

Whether you’ve bought the card as a treat or perhaps a gift to pop in a friend’s birthday card, you should know that it is still a form of gambling as such there are game rules and regulations.
