Finding a great scratchcard, with a huge jackpot and at a reasonable price is not as easy as you think.
With £10 scratchcards no longer in circulation in the UK, the most you can now pay for one, in a shop, is £5.
And that’s exactly how much the Monopoly Gold scratchcard costs. But is it worth it?
How To Play Monopoly Gold Scratchcard?
If you’ve decided to buy a national lottery scratchcard as a little treat to yourself then of course you will want to know how to play it.
We all know that you need to scratch the panels in order to reveal the symbols and hopefully that wins you some cash.
However, these days scratchcards can be a little overwhelming as more and more bonus games get added.
We’re not complaining of course, as more games equals more chances of winning, but we also understand that some of them are not very straightforward.
The first thing you need to know about the Monopoly Gold scratchcard is that there are six play areas on it.
They are Bonus Games 1 and 2 plus Games 1, 2, 3 and 4. Between them, you have 16 chances to win a prize.
Bonus Game 1: This is on the top left-hand side of the card and has a big red question mark over it. You need to find the ‘crossed fingers’ symbol to win the amount revealed in the box.
Bonus Game 2: This is on the top right-hand side of the card and has an open blue money chest that needs to be scratched off. Again, find the crossed fingers symbol to win the amount revealed in the panel.
Game 1: This is found directly below the bonus game boxes.
In it you must match the winning number to any of your four numbers revealed when you scratch off the red car, the tap, the Pass Go sign and the lightbulb.
It’s simple, just match a number and win the amount underneath it.
Game 2: Directly below Game 1, on the left-hand side of the card is Game 2.
Here there are two rows and all you have to do is scratch each row and if either has two numbers that add up to exactly ’10’ then you win.
Game 3: This can be found next to Game 2 on the card. Here you have a couple of sets of dice and your job is to reveal and match two identical dice to win the prize.
Game 4: Here you are given two winning symbols and if you can match any of your six symbols to either one of them you win.
The top prize on offer for the Monopoly Gold scratchcard is £2 million.
Only four cards in circulation, from the initial run, have that prize.
The next biggest prize available is £10,000. And while that is not an insignificant amount of money, other cards do offer £100,000 so the jump from ten grand to two million is quite a big gap.
And despite this, there are only FOUR of those available as well. So, in a crazy twist, you have the same odds of winning £2 million as you do of winning £10K.
Chances Of Winning?
According to the National lottery, on the Monopoly Gold scratchcard, there is a 1 in 3.35 overall chance of winning a prize.
The lowest prize on offer is £5 but with over 60 different potential cash prizes, the amount you can win reaches a whopping £2 million.
Now before you get too excited, I should point out that from the 24,870,000 Monopoly Gold scratchcards printed in the initial run, only FOUR contained the top prize.
So the reality is that you have a one in six million chance of scooping the top prize.
Of course, you have a much better shot at bagging a smaller amount of either £5 or £5 & a £5 bonus as between them, there were over three million of them in circulation.
Like all scratchcards, the higher the potential prize, the less chance you have of winning it.
But don’t let that stop you because somebody does have to win the top jackpot prize and there’s no reason why that cannot be you!
How Many Prizes Left On Monopoly Gold Scratchcard?
As we’ve already mentioned, the Monopoly Gold scratchcard has four top prizes of £2,000,000.
At the time of writing this and according to the National Lottery, two of those top prizes are still waiting to be won. You can check the current jackpot prizes still remaining here.
You can claim on a winning card even after they have gone out of circulation. Any money won must be claimed before the end of the 180th day after the closing date of the relevant game.
Bonus Games On The Monopoly Gold Scratchcard
As far as bonus games go, the two on this card are fairly standard. You simply scratch the panels and you’ve either won or you haven’t.
There really isn’t a lot more that can be done with a static, real-world card.
So if it is bonus games that you are after, you might be better trying some online scratchcards which do have extra bonus games, increasing your chances of bagging a prize.
Quite often their jackpots are also bigger than those available on the high street.
The Terms & Conditions
Whether you’ve bought the card as a treat or perhaps a gift to pop in a friend’s birthday card, you should know that it is still a form of gambling as such there are game rules and regulations.
Procedures apply and they can be viewed at retailers and on the National Lottery website at national-lottery.co.uk.
Prizes between £1 and £100 can be claimed at a retailer or a local post office but check the National Lottery website if you are lucky enough to have won a much bigger prize as you may have to complete a Claim Form.
