The National Lottery has launched another Christmas theme card for the festive season. It’s an exciting opportunity to enjoy a little extra cheer during the holidays. But don’t worry if all you get is coal in your stocking because this scratch card offers the chance to win a jackpot worth £1 million.
How To Play Xmas Scratch Card?
If you’ve decided to buy a national lottery scratchcard as a little treat to yourself then, of course, you will want to know how to play it.
We all know that you need to scratch the panels in order to reveal the symbols, and hopefully that wins you some cash.
However, these days scratchcards can be a little overwhelming as more and more bonus games get added.
We’re not complaining of course, as more games equals more chances of winning, but we also understand that some of them are not very straightforward.
The first thing you need to know about the Xmas scratchcard is that there is one play area on it.
It’s sort of like a game of bingo so let’s take a look at it in closer detail…
Game 1: The entire card is one big game. There are five winning numbers along the top of the card – highlighted as red pound signs.
You must scratch these off first. You then have 20 symbols to scratch off – highlighted by £20 notes.
If any of the numbers on your 20 panels match a winning number, then you win the prize amount directly under your number.
Also included is a fixed symbol of a money bag. If you reveal that, then you instantly win £20.
What Is The Jackpot Prize?
The top prize on offer for the Xmas scratchcard is £1 million.
Only four cards in circulation from the initial run have that prize.
The next biggest prize available is £50,000. This is a pretty decent second prize, especially when you consider that a lot of these cards drop quickly from the top prize to just £10,000.
Chances Of Winning
According to the National lottery, there is a 1 in 3.11 overall chance of winning a prize on the Xmas scratchcard.
The lowest prize on offer is £5, but with over 11 different potential cash prizes, the amount you can win reaches a whopping £1 million.
Now before you get too excited, I should point out that from the 13,249,320 Xmas scratchcards printed in the initial run, only four contained the top prize.
So the reality is that you have around one in 3.32 million chance of scooping the top prize. And it’s exactly the same odds to win the £50K as there are only four of those prizes available as well.
Of course, you have a much better shot at bagging a smaller amount of £5 as there are over 1.9 million of them in circulation.
Like all scratchcards, the higher the potential prize, the less chance you have of winning it.
But don’t let that stop you because somebody does have to win the top jackpot prize, and there’s no reason why that cannot be you!
How Many Prizes Left On Xmas Scratchcard?
As we’ve already mentioned, the Xmas scratchcard has four top prizes of £1,000,000.
At the time of writing this and according to the National Lottery, three of those top prizes are still waiting to be won.
You can claim on a winning card even after they have gone out of circulation. Any money won must be claimed before the end of the 180th day after the closing date of the relevant game.
Bonus Games On Xmas Scratchcard
As far as bonus games go, this scratchcard has two of them. But you don’t really have to do much to play them.
On either side of the Winning Numbers line, there is a circle and in each circle is another number.
If any of your numbers match the number on the left, you double your prize money. If you match the number in the circle on the right, you win 5x the prize money.
But if it is bonus games that you are after, you might be better trying some online scratchcards which do have extra bonus games, increasing your chances of bagging a prize.
Quite often, their jackpots are also bigger than those available on the high street.
The Terms & Conditions
Whether you’ve bought the card as a treat or perhaps a gift to pop in a friend’s birthday card, you should know that it is still a form of gambling as such, there are game rules and regulations.
Procedures apply, and they can be viewed at retailers and on the National Lottery website at national-lottery.co.uk.
Prizes between £1 and £100 can be claimed at a retailer or a local post office but check the National Lottery website if you are lucky enough to have won a much bigger prize as you may have to complete a Claim Form.
Jackpot Joy and Betfred know that trying out new scratch cards can be risky. That’s why they offer demo mode, so you have time to learn how these games work without risking anything! – it’ll allow playing in both demos and slots from their extensive library.
